Norwalk CT Brain Injury Lawyer

Attorney Representing TBI Victims in Fairfield County, Connecticut

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 1.7 million people suffer traumatic brain injuries (TBI) in the U.S. every year. In addition to physical and cognitive problems, TBI can cause personality and mood disorders. This often has enormous effects on the family and friends of TBI victims.

I understand how devastating a TBI can be for everyone involved. At the law office of Richard H. Raphael in Westport, I represent TBI victims and their families. In cases such as these, when the injuries may last a lifetime, you need a lawyer who has the experience to obtain appropriate compensation. Trust in my 30 years of experience and my skill as a negotiator and litigator.

What Is TBI?

A TBI or closed head injury can be caused by a sudden trauma that results in a blow to the head or a penetrating head injury. Concussions, which are a type of brain injury, can result from an impact to the body causing the head to move rapidly back and forth. Falls are the leading cause of TBI; car accidents are the second most frequent cause.

Traumatic brain injuries are classified as mild, moderate or severe, depending on the level of neurological disruption or damage the brain suffers. Despite the name, mild TBI can have a serious effect on the victim and his or her loved ones. Symptoms of mild TBI may include headaches, dizziness, blurred vision, fatigue, disrupted sleep patterns, confusion, and emotional or behavioral changes.

Additional complications of TBI include loss of vision, inability to speak, hematomas, brain swelling, intracranial infection, blood pressure issues, cardiac or lung problems, and weakness in the extremities. In the most severe TBI cases, the result may be a vegetative state, coma or wrongful death.

People with TBI may face a lifetime of complications and medical treatments. They may be unable to work or care for their families. That is why I seek maximum compensation for lost income, medical bills, monthly expenses, pain and suffering, and loss of enjoyment of life.
